The year rolls on and we’ve now arrived at the Summer 2020 season. By this point some anime had returned from their COVID-19 break that started in the spring season, so all things considered there were a number of shows airing during these months. Let’s take a look at our favorites!

Lapis Re:LiGHTs

I didn’t actually watch a lot of shows in the summer season. Looking back at my list now, I actually only watched 4 shows and out of those 4, this one really stood out to me. Lapis Re:LiGHTs combined a lot of genres such as idol, magic school, and fantasy together and the result was very enjoyable. What caught my attention off the bat was of course the idol elements of the show, something I actually forgot about until a few eps had passed and they started to introduce that into the show. The music and performances were excellent and I really loved how different each group of girls were both in song and dance. The music is a strong point in this show and from the OP to the ED and all the insert songs, they were all so good and even now I still listen to them on my phone. Another strong point to this show were the amazing visuals. The bright and vivid colors really popped off the screen, especially during the performances. Even with a global pandemic happening, the quality pretty much never dropped and each ep looked fantastic. And finally we have the characters of the show who really brought it to life. It’s hard to pick a favorite as each girl was so good and it’s so easy to like them all. I hope we see more of this show in the future as the story felt like it had so much more left in it by the end. Regardless of another season or now, Lapis Re:LiGHTs was still a wonderful anime full of magic, sexiness, cute girls, and an easy to enjoy story. And really, that’s all you need for a good time.

Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai!

Normally shows like this don’t really appeal to me and honestly I don’t think it would’ve made it on to my watch list had it not have been for the uproar it caused prior to airing. You see, Uzaki has large boobs and that’s for some reason a big problem for a lot of people, so right away this show was hated for that point alone. But if you’re one of the normal people out there who doesn’t get triggered by fictional boobs on a fictional character then you’re already doing a lot better than so many others out there. I really liked Uzaki, very fun show, got my laughing each ep, and even if it might not be something I’d normally watch, I had a very good time with it and I’m very much looking forward to the second season coming at some point in the future. The star of the show, Uzaki herself, was a hilarious character. Her obnoxious personality and wild antics made for a fun filled ride and she always kept you on the edge of your seat with whatever new and exciting adventure she had planned. Given what was happening in the world at the time, having a show like this to just unwind and enjoy yourself was very welcoming. So even if people got triggered by Uzaki and her large boobs, their anger still couldn’t stop this show from being popular enough to get another season. Yep, Uzaki isn’t over yet and I can’t wait to see what she’s got planned next. Also her mom is really hot. Like really, really hot. Need more of her in S2.

GUNDAM BUILD DIVERS Re:RISE

Honestly, I was really excited for Higurashi, only to have it postponed until October, so I did not really see anything this season, nothing really caught my eye that was new. Although I did watch both Healin’ Good PreCure and Gundam Build Divers Re:Rise, seeing that was postponed. Build Divers Re:Rise, being the sequel to Build Divers, honestly I did like it. I was different, and honestly I think I talked about the first half of the series back in last year’s “Year in Review Post” well, at least I can say I was right and they were all on some other planet. I was thinking other reality, but they were on another planet.

Like, there is normal Gundam with politics and mecha fights, then there is the Build Series. The first one dealt with a dude from another universe to fight in plastic model Gundam battles, second season dealt with who knows, since I never saw it. Then there was the other Divers series which dealt with video games and sentient AI that exists due to the love of Gundams. Then there is this series, which makes sense they got to do something else that is random now. Plus seeing that the ending of this season was basically the equivalent of Avenger’s End Game with a bunch of people from the last Build Divers series showing up to fight the last enemy, made it really enjoyable. So, yeah, despite probably mentioning Gundam Build Divers Re:Rise last year, I am going to mention it again since I really just like Gundam.

Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 2nd Season Part 1

A return of a good one. Re:Zero during the summer season was amazing ride. Granted the twist about Echidna was obvious in my book but it was still amazing to watch her work her magic, slowly making Subaru depend on her more and more. Meanwhile, Subaru’s doing his usual suffering thing and trying to help the people of Santuacy and at the mansion. And unfortunately his best isn’t enough at the moment. We can only hope that he’ll be able to help more in the 2nd part of the season which should be airing in the winter of 2021.

So there you have it, our picks for the Summer 2020 season! As always be sure to let us know which shows you watched during that season and which ones you enjoyed the most.

Up next is the Fall 2020 season!

See you next week!
