Hey everyone. It’s Deven. I’m third for telling you about my experiences being a member of AnimeCorps. It’s been a good and fun time for the last 5 years.

Starting and Joining

For those that don’t know, I’m not a founding member and technically Nick is the only one left. I actually started my own blog(which I will not shamelessly promote here), the same season that Nick started his which was the Spring Season of 2014.

We worked apart for a season, wishing well for each other since before then we had our own private blogs. Nick’s is still up while mine is down for certain reason. And eventually during the Summer Season of 2014, I asked if I could join and Nick let me on. At the time, we had a few members and it was fun back then having Skype conversations about what we were planning for the next season and running it by each other. It was good times.

The Series that I’ve Reviewed

So seeing as I’ve been here for 5 years, I’ve reviewed a lot of series, 17 in total.

I have to say I’m very proud of myself.

Now to talk about my favorite series to have reviewed.

It’d be a hard decision to make but I’d guess it’d be a tie between Trinity Seven and Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works.

Both series have something I enjoy. For Fate, it has the action, adventure, and philosophical elements that I love in series.

While Trinity Seven has what I call, “Good Protagonist” thing in a harem which is rare. As I get older, I’m not liking harems as much as I used to which makes sense. I started blogging when I was 20 and now I’m 25, graduated from a 2 year college, working, and all of that stuff. Of course my tastes are going to change.

I like active protagonists more now. And a stand-in cardboard cutout for the audience to live out their fantasy isn’t going to cut it for me anymore.

Favorite Opening Song

I’ve only got two really.

The Opening to Koufuku Grattifi(Winter 2015), “Shiawase ni Tsuite Watashi ga Shitteiru Itsutsu no Hoho”(The Five Ways of Obtaining Happiness That I’m Aware Of) by Maaya Sakamoto. If I could, I’d also put the songs she’s done for Fate/Grand Order unfortunately I can’t.

The lyrics that I’ve found are so pretty and happy that I could listen to it forever. And when this anime came out, I really did. This is always a song that I repeat when it plays on my phone.

The Opening to Danmachi: Sword Oratoria(Spring 2017), Re-Illusion by Yuka Iguchi. Another beautiful song that has sweet and beautiful lyrics.

Least Liked Series to Reviewed

This is a pretty simple one although it wasn’t clear when I was reviewing it. It has to be Isuca. It seemed like a good idea at the time which was sad. But in the end looking back at the anime and my reviews, the anime felt uninspired. Very lackluster protagonist, very archtypical harem girls, and a not very good plot in my opinion.

The Experience

The Good

I’d have to say that the good always outweighs the bad or at least that’s how it’s been in my case. I’ve met a lot of good people through the anime-blogging sphere that we inhabit and a lot of friends on Twitter. We all read each others posts and push each other to be better. We enjoy talking about the series that we’re watching and give each other recommendations on what to look out for next season. The AniBlogging and AniTwitter scenes are one of my favorite places to be.

The Bad

I try and stay positive but I think there’s been some mistakes that I’ve made over the course of my blogging career.

Leaving LLSIF was a bad idea with hindsight. It was a consistent post that I could always come back when ever but I felt that while I always will love Love Live I didn’t enjoy the game. I didn’t enjoy the story and I am not very good at rhythm games.

The other one is my change in review style. I feel that my more recent reviews have been more of a product of efficiency rather than passion. I’m a working adult now and back when I was 19/20, I could sit at home for a few hours and essentially watch an episode 3 times to do a review. Nowadays, I have less time so my reviewing method and reviews have to be more sharp. I wonder if people preferred my older method to my newer one.

And finally Date A Live. Date A Live is pretty close to the finale with the novel. And I really ended up stop reviewing the light novel right before Nia Creation. I felt that I should have done more but I ended doing nothing since I couldn’t find any translations for the novels. And I didn’t have much time to actually read them and summarize them for you all.

I do have a few regrets but I feel that I can try and be better despite my time. I hope that you support me there.

So there we have it, my Anniversary post. The last five years have been nothing but fun and I’m thankful to everyone I’ve met on the course of it.

But there’s one more thing that we need to announce. It’s that we at AnimeCorps will be doing a livestream on Sunday, April 28th at 3pm CDT/4pm EDT. We hope to see you there.
