The end is almost here, so guess who decided to show up again.
Here’s my review.
There comes a point in every season, usually near the end, when I just wish it would end already. I’m hitting that point now, well actually I was a few weeks ago, but it’s a lot more noticeable right now than it was back then. The point is Dagashi Kashi just isn’t what it used to be and each week it’s getting further from that. This week’s installment really drove the point home where it honestly had nothing to do with dagashi or the shop, rather just Coconuts trying to make his manga dream come true, which we both know won’t happen.
In all honesty I’m not mad at this show, just disappointed. It’s this nagging feeling I’ve had since S2 began and as the weeks went by it became more and more of a thing until we reached this ep, but S2 just isn’t good. Plain and simple. It’s lost the charm S1 had, lost the dagashi antics, lost the good character design, and most importantly, lost the fun. S2 just hasn’t been living up to what it should be and it’s finally dawning on me, 11 weeks late, that it’s a problem. There never was any overreaching story to carry it through and even as a random skit of the week that’s loosely connected to the next, it failed at that which is really saying something. Maybe it’s just me, but I just could never get into this season as much as I was hoping I would and it has reached the point where I’m having a hard time watching it because it’s just not worth the time anymore. I’ll see this review to the end, I don’t like leaving series unfinished, and thankfully there is only 1 ep left, but really I knew it would probably come to this at some point.
As for this week’s ep, well Coconuts is able to complete his manga with the help of Hajime and Saya, then he takes it to the review session and gets completely turned down in 5 minutes flat. Dejected and stuck at a snowy train station, Coconuts is met by the one person who hasn’t been around for the past 6 eps. Yep that’s right, she’s back… again! Hotaru, the crazy purple haired dagashi obsessed girl. Although as much as I should be happy to see her again, it means I’m back to seeing that new design for her and loathing it once more. It honestly is nowhere near as good as S1 was and I will not change my stance on that. It’s just bad, end of story, don’t @ me or anything because we’re not talking about it at all. So yeah, just like that she’s back and apparently things are going to be alright again, or something like that. I don’t know, but it’s just time for this show to end.
I knew this rant was coming so I may as well get it out-of-the-way. I’m done with this show at this point, it’s just not good. I’ll watch and review the final ep, but expect more of the same, along with my final thoughts on the show as a whole.
So there you have it, ep 11. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next week for the finale!
