Hello and welcome back to another season preview post! I’ve got the whole Anime Corps writing crew here and we’re going to be going through what we’ll be reviewing come this January. So this time around we’ll be trying a new way of the preview, everyone will be voicing their opinion on all the anime we’re reviewing. If it sounds a bit confusing then read on and you’ll see what I mean. I’ll provide links to MAL (click on the anime title), a poster, and a video preview as well, just so it’s not all text. I hope you enjoy this post and upcoming reviews!

Let’s get started!

Absolute Duo

absoluteduo_2Video Preview (New)

Nick: I’m not sure what attracted me to this anime, silver haired female lead maybe, I’m not sure but I’ll be checking this one out. I plan to review it as well, but honestly I’m not sure. If I like it then I’ll go for it, but I might not. I like the art and it’s got a talented voice cast too, some names include: Haruka Yamazaki (Tomoyo from Inou-Battle), Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Kirito from SAO), Natsuki Hanae (Inaho from Aldnoah), Haruka Tomatsu (Asuna from SAO), Yukari Tamura (from too much to name) and Yui Horie (also very well known). I’m hoping it’ll be good, but only time can tell.

Andrew: Based on the synopsis for this I can only say that it does sound very generic to me, however provided that we all know what we are getting into this is not so much of a problem. Moreover the premise of an academy for magic weapon users is one that has been used in quite a few shows that I have ended up enjoying so I could say that I owe it to myself to give this one a chance.

Chris: This seems similar to something that aired a season or two ago… Bladedance maybe?  Either way, not really interested in this too much.

Deven: Hmm a good revenge story. That’s always good. Too bad he’s got a shield and no sword. This really reminds me a lot of the anime Freezing since it’s a seinen manga that has a lot of fanservice with a lot of violence. The great part is the cast. Oh Yoshitsugu Matsuoka coming here right after SAO 2 and Trinity Seven. I think he’ll be doing fine after this. Looks like he brought Asuna and Hijiri too, meaning that Ayaka Suwa and Haruka Tomatsu are coming in. The guy really has a good bond with them. I can’t wait to see what plays out with this one.

Tsuyuki: Seems like the kind of harem show I would find myself watching.

IsucaNo preview currently available

Nick: I didn’t really have any intention of watching this, but I might check it out just because I’ve got so little that I do plan on watching.

Andrew: After reading the synopsis for Isuca I can’t really say that it has managed to prompt any form of  significant response from me. It sounds like it will be potentially held up on comedy, so I guess if I hear of amusing extracts from it I may consider giving it a watch, otherwise this one is a miss for me.

Chris: Another series that sounds familiar to me, and one that sounds absurd to me.  Should at least be a fun ride.

Deven: Now this is one I’ll definitely be reviewing. It’s another Slice of Life but it’s mixed with some action and ecchi. Now that’s good. This one just dragged me in because of the sheer kookiness of it. Is kookiness a word? I’d like to think so. Anyway it’s good cast too. They’ve got Sarah Emi Bridcutt, Kaori Sadohara, and Saeko Zougou, all from Date A Live. They’ve also got someone that I haven’t seen for a while with Ibuki Kido. Ah the good old days with OniAi.

Tsuyuki: This looked really interesting until I saw the “ecchi” tag on AniChart, now I feel like this could just be another Madan to Ou no Vandis.

Kantai Collection

KancolleVideo Preview

Nick: I know next to nothing about this one other than it’s based off a game, there are shipgirls and it sounds like it’ll have a very good cast too. Sign me up for this one. All hands on deck!

Andrew: The much-anticipated anime adaptation of Kantai Collection is the winter season anime I am writing the reviews of. I am fully confident that I could be here all day talking about my impressions of the various PV’s so instead I will simply say that; I am watching this and so should you.

Chris: I’ve been excited to see this for a while. I haven’t been fortunate enough to get my hands on the game, but I’ve been keeping up with the ships and news on the anime adaptation.  Really excited to see how this one works out!

Deven: Hmm after looking at the PV and checking out the wiki page, I think I would like to get this game and I’m definitely watching the anime. It combines my two favorite things! Cute girls and strategy games! Plus looking at the game’s list of seiyuu is like looking a list of awesomeness! I can’t wait for this one to come out.

Tsuyuki: This actually looks super interesting. I’ve been admiring the game from afar for awhile now so I’m really interested to watch the anime.

Koufuku Graffiti

Nick: Food Porn: The Anime by SHAFT. This one really interests me because it came from the same magazine series that Kiniro Mosaic and Gochiusa did, so if that’t any indication this should be a super cute anime. Plus the line in the synopsis: “slightly erotic meal scenes” has me a bit more… aroused for this one. Show us something amazing, SHAFT!

Andrew: A cooking anime by studio SHAFT? I’m in from that alone! I am curious as to where they will take this though; it’s tagged as comedy and the synopsis sounds rather slice of life so the possible pallet of flavours that this anime will express is most board indeed.

Chris: A SHAFT anime about cooking?  I expect lots of weird, artsy shots and blatant “food porn” from this.

Deven: Hmm what’s not to like, food and cute girls doing cute things. That’s all you need in slice of life anime. I’m going to watching this one while I’m hungry! Good thing I’m reviewing this one!

Tsuyuki: This is probably a show I’ll go back to after I get some free time to watch. SHAFT is one of my favourite studios so as long as they don’t pull another Mekakucity Actors with this show I’m sure it will be great.

Nick: A-1 Pictures is a favorite studio of mine so naturally I looked into this one. But this story starts back in March of this year when it was announced as an anime. I saw this trailer and liked the music and art enough to put it on my watch list. Here we are with it weeks away and I’m looking forward to it a lot more. This will be something new for me to review, a slice of life, some romance going on, I’ve never reviewed an anime like this before so it should be fun to review. I hope.

Andrew: A slice of life, romcom series adapted from a light novel? I need to be watching at least one of these per season else I’ll lose the will to live or something. Joking aside this show does pique my curiosity as whist I have not read the light novel myself I am under the impression that it is rather good, mainly on the basis that it has had three manga series adapted from it (An adaptation and two spin-offs) so I’m quite looking forward to this one.

Chris: Definitely seems like your standard romcom harem setup and I’ll probably check it out.  I have a soft spot for any series that has some sort of romance in it.  I’m hoping this one will be fun!

Deven: Ah a Light Novel! I wish I took this up. Sounds really slice of life. A young male otaku with his harem of cute girls to try to make a visual novel using one of their friends as the base. Hmm I like it. Yoshitsugu Matsuoka is going to be the main character. After Arata and Kirito he’s got the harem lead down…by the time this is up I’m going to be sad that SAO is over…sad. This is definitely one I’ll be checking out.

Tsuyuki: In all honesty it doesn’t seem that special to me. It’s A-1 so I suppose it has a high chance of coming out well but I personally don’t see the appeal to this one.

THE iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls

Nick: Yeah I’m down for more idol anime.

Andrew: When it comes to idol anime I am of the opinion that Love Live is as good as it gets. This is not a mark against series like iDOLM@STER though as I did quite enjoy the previous anime adaptation. So if Cinderella Girls is more of the same I’ll be watching.

Chris: I may be extremely biased, but this is the series I’m looking forward to the most this season.  I loved the original iDOLM@STER series and have been a big fan since I first watched it.  Hoping this one lives up to my expectations, and I get some more idol goodness to enjoy.

Deven: So cute and so idol sweet! In a way I say darn to Marshy but when you’re reviewing with your girlfriend I’ve got to step aside. I’m really looking forward to this one. I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about the game and other parts of the franchise.

Tsuyuki: Hey, look at that, another idol anime.

Nick: It’s been a while, but I finally decided I should watch the always talked about Bakemonogatari, which gets flying 10’s from everyone. I’ll be starting Bakemonogatari “soon”, so it’ll be quite some time before I get around to watching this installment of the series. I know that Tsuyuki is crazy hyped about this one. Crazy hyped.

Andrew: Tsukimonogatari is a further installment of the outstanding Monogatari series so at this point it really goes without saying that I will be watching this with much anticipation. However, this time I do have particular reason to be excited as it is finally time for Yotsugi, who is certainly a favourite of mine, to get some much needed character development.

Chris: I’m far too behind on the Monogatari series to worry about this one right now. I’ll finish Nisemonogatari someday!

Deven: Hmm…as I look at the cast list I’m definitely going to try and catch up on this one. Saori Hayami, Maaya Sakamoto, Eri Kitamura! I need to see this and ClariS is doing the opening. I definitely need to be watching this! I can’t wait!

Tsuyuki: No found words in any language could ever explain the hype I have for this show. Nothing in the known universe would ever be capable of expressing the extreme amount of excitement I have for a Monogatari show to be coming out so soon after the one before it. Now, SHAFT, I have but one question for you: When the hell is Kizumonogatari coming out?

So there you have it, our lineup of winter anime that you can expect to be reviewed here. I’m personally really excited for this new season, but saddened that some of my fall favorites have ended now. At least we can enjoy Parasyte, Shirobako and Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso into the new year. So if you’re planning on watching any of the above mentioned anime, what are your thoughts on them? Let me know in the comments!

I hope you’ll join us for the winter season as I can promise another enjoyable time here on Anime Corps! Happy holidays from everyone here and I’ll cya in the new anime season and New Year as well!
