With the finale in sight, Love Live prepares to end it all with a bang, as well as an awesome performance too!
Here’s my review!
They’ve finally made it here! The time is now! Love Live is before them and all they need to do is reach out and take hold of it. Yes all their hard work, sweat, tears, injuries, and troubles have gotten them to the goal they’ve all dreamed of. Wow, just take a moment to savor that feeling, they’ve done it!
Hot on the heels of last week’s emotional episode, Love Live returns as the finale draws ever so close. All the idol groups are assembled and through the drawing order, it’s decided that μ’s will be the 11th and final group to preform. In a group meeting later on in the club room, the girls talk over the pros and cons of being the last to perform. Obviously there is a lot of pressure as you’ll have watched the other 10 groups go before you, thinking that they’re all way better than you, then there is the pressure of having to end the show with a bang. Can they out preform all the other groups before them? It’s a challenging thing, but I think it’s better than being first up, unless you set the bar so high that no one else can reach it. Whatever the case, they’re all happy with Nico and her ability to get them a good spot. Now it’s off to practice!
Their practice goes over well like always and everyone is really pumped up and excited for the big day. Before they know it, it’s getting late and time to head home for the night. But as they’re all about to cross the street and head back, Hanayo mentions that they just had their last practice together, as once Love Live is over, Eri, Nico and Nozomi will be graduating. Uh oh, feels again. A observant Maki points out that Eri had noticed that earlier but chose not to bring it up, but before the tears start flowing again, Nico sternly but kindly reminds them to keep their sights on Love Live, not the inevitable sadness that will happen at some point. Props to Nico there for keeping them focused! I was all ready with tissue in case I needed to wipe tears away. Taking a quick side trip to the shrine on the way home, the girls each say their prayers, hoping for Love Live to be a success for them, before finally parting ways. I like how they left in 3’s, each group being all the same class year; Eri, Nico and Nozomi, all third years, left together, Honoka, Umi and Kotori, all second years, left together, and finally Maki, Rin and Hanayo, all first years, left together. I thought that was kinda neat. There is also another moment of this too, later on, that I’ll point out.
But on their way down the shrine steps, Maki, Rin and Hanayo notice Nico, Eri and Nozomi standing around at the bottom. Hmm, what are they doing there? To their surprise, Honoka, Umi and Kotori suddenly show up and the gang is all back together again, even though they were supposed to go home. More slight feels here as they have trouble parting ways and going home, so Honoka suggests that they sleep over at the school. With permission from Kotori’s mother, remember she’s the Principal, they set up beds to sleep in and Nico even cooks them dinner too! Wow, super fun!
After a nice meal cooked by Nico, the girls head up to the roof top where they observe the city at nighttime, looking ever so beautiful. Another think I want to point out there, notice the blankets they’ve got wrapped around themselves; Eri, Nozomi and Nico have green blankets representing the green ties of the third year students, Honoka, Kotori and Umi have red blankets as the second year students have red ties, and Maki, Rin and Hanayo have blue blankets as first year students have blue ties. I just thought this was a cool thing they did here. I also liked the quick fly by of a few key people along the way: A-RISE, showing them watching the Snow Halation performance, Arisa and Yukiho listening to a μ’s song, Honoka’s father watching a performance on the laptop, Nico’s younger brother and sisters playing, it was just a really touching moment showing all those people who helped μ’s along the way to becoming the school idol group they are now.
The next day is the big day. The girls are up early and down at the venue later that morning to check out the stage. A keen eye will notice that this grand stage is seen once before, notably in the season 1 OP. This raises the question what the closing song will be, possible the season 1 OP or something new? With friends, family, and students from the school all in the crowd, the girls, all dressed in cute dresses made by Kotori, are ready to take the stage and wow us with their last performance! Let’s take a look at how that went!
Another top notch performance by the girls and although we didn’t get to see the other 10 groups go, I’m sure μ’s totally blew them out of the water with ease! The following scene is sure to bring you to tears as it shows the girls back stage celebrating, crying and just so happy that they made it to Love Live and performed in front of such a massive crowd. But what’s more, as they’re all hugging and crying, the crowd is cheering for an encore! They want another performance! What followed was really awesome actually as the encore performance they gave the crowd was the season 1 opening! Yes the song and dance performed on that very stage! Wow it really brought everything full circle and I liked how they inter cut the performance with clips showing those same three girls who are always helping them out, bring the costumes out for them to wear for the performance and make in an encore that we’ll remember forever!
So obviously they changed a few parts from OP to fit the ep, but it remained the same otherwise. Honestly, at first I was a bit taken aback by the reusing of the season 1 OP, but after giving it some thought I realized that it fits perfectly and like I said, it brings everything full circle back that very song and dance we came to love in season 1 episode 1.
All in all this was another fantastic episode but I’m heartbroken that the next one really is the last one. I love this anime so, so much and I don’t want it to end, but there is a point where the story has come and an end and it’s time to bring to a close this amazing experience. So next Monday I’ll be posting my final Love Live review and it’s also going to include my final thoughts on it as well.
Let’s take a look at some screen shots from the ep now!
So we’re nearly at the end here, only one more ep to go! If you’re watching Love Live and have just seen ep 12, what did you think of it? Was it amazing like always? How about the song, did you like it? Be sure to let me know in the comments what your thoughts are on the ep!
Up next we’re back to war with Rentaro and gang in Black Bullet ep 12 before wrapping things up on Wednesday with the finale of No Game No Life. Just a quick heads up for Wednesday’s review, I’ll be busy for most of the day as I’ll be at a job workshop thing from 11-4, so I won’t be able to watch the ep till I get back, meaning the review might not be up until Thursday if not late Wednesday night.
Here’s what we’ll have next week!
I’ll cya in the next post!
