The truth is shocking and Honoka finds out the horrific truth in this ep.
Here’s my review!
Like every week, Love Live is one anime that will not let ep in delivering an enjoyable time. Picking up right there ep 6 left us on the cliff, Yukiho and Honoka’s mother reading the letter that was found in Honoka’s room. Just what is on the letter though? Something from school? She’s been accepted into some university? Got a really bad grade on something? No… no it’s not any of that. Honoka walks into the scene and instantly explains that it’s a medical report of some kinda, one which has her body measurements on it; turns out she lots that page after opening the envelope (silly Honoka) so she hasn’t read what’s on it yet. Reluctantly her mother hands her the page, ready for all hell to break loose. Unfortunately Honoka has gained weight, something that obviously isn’t good for idols.
The next day at school, Umi lays into Honoka telling her it’s lack of discipline that this is happening. In reality Honoka is pretty carefree and doesn’t really take things that seriously, and usually Umi has to lay the law before things really start moving along. Commendable enough, Honoka takes to the treadmill in hopes to lose weight quickly, but once she notices Kotori has a bag of chips, a new flavor, her motivation to lose weight suddenly disappears. Once again Umi has to set her in line again. Umi’s way of driving the point home is to make Honoka wear the costume she first wore for their first ever concert back in season 1 ep 3 (remember that pink dress she wore, yeah that one); as Umi has predicted, Honoka couldn’t fit into that costume and she finally has to accept the fact she needs to do something about this. As the nail in the coffin, Umi orders her on a diet so she can be in tip top shape to compete in the upcoming Love Live competition. After all, it’s their goal to win.
Well then it looks like Honoka’s going to be going on a exercise for the next little while to lose weight. But much to everyone’s surprise it’s not just Honoka who will be trying to lose weight; turns out Hanayo has been packing on the pounds too with all her rice eating she’s been doing lately. Hmm, two members having weight troubles, this is not something Umi will let go that easily. Drafting up an ‘extreme’ diet plan for them, Umi makes is very clear that if they want to have a winning shot at Love Live, then they’ll have to follow the plan she’s made so they can lose weight and be in shape for the concert coming up soon.
As if things weren’t already stressful enough for Honoka, she’s also the student council president as well. An upcoming budget meeting with all the club presidents is something the three girls also have to be putting work into. Umi and Kotori of course are working hard while Honoka is more on the slacking off side, not really having any motivation to do the work. It’s amazing that she became the student council president and not Umi. Personally I’d have voted for Umi, she’s very capable and has a good work ethic, I’d trust her to get any task completed and with the utmost attention to detail.
One of the funniest parts in this ep has to be the sequence in which Honoka and Hanayo are ordered by Umi to go for a 5k run. Their run takes them through the city where they pass a rice place where you can get huge bowls and rice to eat and such. What’s so funny about this scene is that there is no dialog between both girls, it’s just all facial expressions and gestures, they’re also running in place for the whole thing too, never once stopping. In the end they both give into the temptation and end up indulging in the delicious food, something that they should not be doing while trying to lose weight.
This goes on for a week, Honoka and Hanayo stopping at the rice place during their 5k run. On the ball Umi starts to catch on though, realizing the no one is ever that excited to go on a 5k run. Deciding to follow them one day, Umi uncovers their secret stops they make for food.
The second half of the ep is more focused on the upcoming budget meeting, as the exercise takes a secondary spot. Umi gives a progress report on the two of them though; Hanayo is back to her targeted weight while Honoka is still not there just yet. While she says she’s been following Umi’s outline, Umi also brings out that Honoka has been seen eating snacks here and there. Kotori wasn’t really much of a help as she was seen giving some food to Honoka, Yukiho has also reported that Honoka has been eating dumplings and cake at home, something Umi is quite upset about. An interesting conversation between Rin and Maki about if Umi really does like Honoka as she’s always so strict and harsh towards her. Kotori finally becomes some help as she tells the two that Umi is acting this way because she wants the best for Honoka, even if Honoka doesn’t realize it at the time.
But it’s out of the frying pan and into the fire. Remember back when Kotori put the budget request form in the ‘Approved’ box? Well she shouldn’t have. There goes being helpful in this ep, Kotori. None of the requests were supposed to be approved until AFTER the meeting, something all three of the girls well know, but due to all the recent activity, Kotori accidentally put the form into the wrong box; now that it’s gone ahead there is no going back. Presenting the trouble to Ericchi and Nozomi, both former council members make it known how big a deal this has become. Ericchi says she knows people in the art club who she can talk with and hopefully be able to clear up the misunderstanding, but Honoka insists that since she’s the president now, they should be the ones fixing the problem, not the former members. Commendable move on Honoka’s part, taking charge of the situation and fixing the problems on her own. That shows not only maturity but also taking the lead the being responsible for your actions. Honoka might be lax with many other things, but where push comes to shove, when in a tight spot she can really act and pull through.
Spending all night at school, the three girls draft up a brand new budget plan for all the clubs to present at the meeting. Their hard work all pays off though as the budget they wrote up suits the club presidents and in the end everyone walks away from the meeting happy. Honoka, Umi and Kotori saved themselves there big time.
I enjoyed this ep as always, it had funny parts as well as showcasing the motivation Honoka has when trouble arises. While she still will go back to eating her favorite bread at the end of the day, Honoka was able to lose enough weight to satisfy Umi and put their plan for winning Love Live back in motion!
Let’s take a look at a few screen shots from the ep!
So there you have it, ep 7! Man it’s hard to believe that Love Live is half way finished! I don’t want it to end! Next Sunday we’ve got a Nozomi eps, judging by the preview, so fans of Nozomi better make sure you’re there for that one. I’m still waiting for that Maki ep, I really hope there is one. Alright then, up next I’m not sure what I’ll have, maybe a WIXOSS review as that’s trending in my mind right now (ep 8 was mind blowing, oh my god I love that anime so much!) so I might have the ep 3 review out for that. For those reviews I probably won’t have many, if any, pics with them, they’ll be mostly walls of text. I might add a pic here or there, we’ll see. That’s it for me in this review; thanks for reading and I’ll cya next time!
